In her capacity as Assembly Member for South Wales East, Veronica German has written to Home Office Minister Lynne Featherstone and Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan expressing her deep concern regarding the possible closure of the Newport Passport office.
Ms German commented:
“We fully understand that cuts need to be made due to the economic legacy that the previous Labour government left behind, but on this particular occasion civil servants need to think again. I cannot believe that this is the only solution, but it may have seemed like the easiest. I however, cannot accept this.
“Not only will these proposals drastically reduce the quality of service for millions in Wales and South West England, it will have an adverse effect on the economy of South East Wales and leave hundreds without jobs.”
