Hello

I attended a meeting last night at Rhymney Community Center and was appaled to learn of the severity this incinerator could cause, I came out of the meeting very frightened and afraid. Can not understand in area with poor health that this man-slaughtering firm can be awarded the business, also can not understand the local councils, MP's or other businesses around the area as their health will become affected as they work in the area.

I am pleading with you as a Mother and career of disabled parents (Dad has COPD)that this can not come to our area. I am infuriated that this has been known for 2 years and only recently came to light

Many thanks

dear miss german , covanta state that this incinerator will save landfill taxes, how ?,when it takes 750,000 tons that could have gone to ordinary landfill. Then leaves 200,000 tons per year,of toxic bottom ash and 50,000 tons per year of highly toxic fly ash, these have to go to spcialy licensed hazardous waste landfill sites, there are only 7 in britain, and they charge a gret deal more than ordinary landfill !covant say that these toxic materials, can be recycled into building materials . This has been banned in the U.S.A., and norfolk council where fined for useing it in 2004, also michael meacher said it should never be used in building.because when it gets crushed up again ,toxins are released. 250,000 tons multiplied by 35 years = 8,750,000 tons of toxic waste, the Great pyramid = 5,800,000 tons this white elephant will be 10 times bigger because it is dust and ash. Dublin city have just found this out and observers say that this and other broblems may cost them 200,000,000 euros . The common market stopped them shipping this toxic material away. States in america are on the verge of bancruptcy, because of these problems , has anyone in our goverment checked why no incinerators of this type have been built in U.S.A. for 15 years I would be delighted if you could clarify this for our countries sake.A simple search by you on Google could save us from the same disasters, I hope to hear from you soon. philip watkins 01443692185

As an ex A&E nurse, I am fully aware of the problem and agree it is ridiculous. The whole problem is that there is no beds to move patients onto. I am not talking about A&E, I am talking about the hospitals in general. A&E is what u might describe as a stepping stone. You have the 1st stone when the accident or emergency happens, then the 2nd stone where they are picked up by the ambulances and taken to A&E, but this is where the 3rd stone is heaving and overflowing with patients already on the 3rd stone, who have been assessed, treated and stabilized and now are waiting to be moved to a bed in the hospital (the 4th stepping stone) to continue with their treatment and care, but the 4th stone is also heaving and overflowing with patients. So the whole system backs up. This has always been a problem, but it has got increasingly worse in the last 10 years since all the old outlying hospitals were closed down, so now there is nowhere for the bed-blocking patients to be moved to, allowing for normal usage of medical and surgical wards to admit, treat and discharge their patients. Of course the increase in the population has also increased demand on the hospitals, yet the hospitals are forced to shut wards due to various extremes of cost cutting as they've gone over their budget! The whole thing is a scandal, hospitals should be expanding and opening, not shrinking and closing. Until this issue is tackled at the root of the problem, things will continue to get worse.
