Five years after the government’s endorsement of a new way to deliver health services in the greater Gwent area with more emphasis on delivery in the community, patients are still waiting.
A key part of the plan was the development of a Critical Care Centre at Llanfrechfa plus a network of local hospitals with Local General Hospitals (LGHs) at Abergavenny and Newport.
The plans were agreed then halted , then further investigations and then the Minister for Health announced a ‘phasing’ of the Critical Care hospital. Meanwhile the conditions in the Royal Gwent are deteriorating and money will need to be spent.
Veronica has already asked to meet with the Local Health Board to discuss this issue and will be campaigning for a fair deal for patients in our area.
