I have lived in the Newport and Cwmbran area for nearly 30 years, and taught Science, Maths and ICT in schools across the Gwent area. My three children were born in the Royal Gwent and attended local schools, so I am well aware of the importance of the health and education services on local families.
This is why I went into politics and have been lucky enough to serve as a councillor on both Newport City and Torfaen County Borough Councils. I believe it is really important to keep in regular contact with local residents and give them the opportunity to let politicians know what issues are important to them.
In the Assembly I will be speaking on health, local government and equality issues for the Welsh Liberal Democrats.
I won my first election at Aston University where I studied Chemical Engineering. I was not standing on a party political ticket in those days – more on better facilities, particularly the standard of the toilet rolls! Who would have thought that my degree would have taken me to the cutting edge of chocolate technology, putting bubbles in the ‘top secret’ prototype for the Wispa bar.
