Veronica and Cllr Bob Griffin protesting against the monstor incinerator

Covanta, a large American energy company, are planning to build and operate a 750,000 tonne-a-year incinerator in Merthyr Tydfil.
Veronica and the Merthyr Liberal Democrats have been campaigning hard for plans for the giant incinerator to be cancelled. She has also openly criticised the lack of consultation that there has been with local residents who will be affected by the plans.
Veronica believes there are a great number of reasons why the incinerator should not go ahead. She believes the plans are incredibly short sighted; Whilst it is true that a handful of jobs would be made available because of the incinerator, research shows that recycling creates 10 times as many jobs as incineration. Therefore Veronica believes that it is the direction the area should be heading.
Veronica also believes that there are a number of parts of the proposals that are clearly against the Welsh Assembly Government’s policies on the environment. She has raised this issue with the First Minister and has called on his Government to be doing more to stand up for the people of Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding areas.
